The Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

Our firm is looking for innovative, forward-thinking people who enjoy challenge and actively seek to develop and improve work processes and designs. Within this position as a Mechanical Engineer, you will work within our team to provide detailed HVAC systems engineering for our clients commercial projects.

Team Contribution

To perform this role successfully, you will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Undertaking and reporting on technical studies, detailed design, multi-discipline coordination, project implementation, and client liaison.

  • Maintain internal standards, to satisfy client standards, and to thoroughly incorporate regulatory requirements in all activities.

  • Will support the technical and functional lead for performing design across the prairies.

  • Stay up to date with current mechanical engineering practice and develop internal best practices for optimum design.

  • Create standardized construction specifications, calculations spreadsheets for repetitive designs, standard typical details wherever possible, standard forms for inspections and other tasks, checklists etc. ahead of starting design work.

  • You will be responsible for analysis, and design of all mechanical systems for your projects and oversee and be responsible for drawing preparation and specification preparation.

  • Support during construction, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, issuing SIs, PCNs, CDs as required

  • Site inspections when required / not appropriate for inspector to complete

  • Participate in constructability reviews

  • Coordination of drawings between disciplines

  • Other duties as assigned by management related to engineering services.

Your Skill Set?

  • Registered or are eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the province of Manitoba, with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 3-9 years of experience progressive experience in the design of various mechanical engineering systems for commercial and/or multi-family residential buildings on projects as a Mechanical Engineer.

  • Solid understanding of standard engineering methods, technologies and computerized design techniques, as well as knowledge of the interaction with other engineering disciplines and fields of work and have an understanding of applicable regulatory requirements in Canada.

  • Demonstrated detailed design, equipment specification and selection experience.

  • Specific detailed design experience with any HVAC and renewable energy systems would be preferred.

  • Customer focused team player who is quick to learn and keen to lead or follow as it best serves our client’s interests.

  • Ability to appropriately gauge the level of effort necessary to provide solutions to our clients; this will be necessary in the development of proposals for services and in committing to scope and schedule as a team.

  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and material design standards

Typical Activities/Physical Abilities:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk

  • Able to lift 20 kg

  • Occasionally required to work outside in varying weather conditions

  • PPE Requirements: Half-mask respirator/mask, Safety glasses, Gloves, Hard Hat, Safety Footwear, Coveralls, Reflective vet
